Our Goal at Pilates West
We are a small independent studio that is interested in helping you achieve your health goals. We want to enhance your daily activities, whether you sit at a computer, walk your dog, bike or climb mountains; we are dedicated to enhancing your lifestyle.

What is Pilates?
Pilates is a series of strengthening and stretching exercises that enable you to work the whole body, combining the upper and lower musculature with the body’s center. The system of movement emphasizes concentration and control focusing on few repetitions performed with great precision and intensity. The objective in Pilates is to develop core stability, whereby the deep abdominal, back and gluteus muscles create a girdle of strength that supports the rest of your body. The reward is: increased strength, greater flexibility, improved posture and enhanced balance.

Who practices Pilates?
We welcome people of all ages and abilities. Pilates clients range from absolute beginners to highly trained athletes, professional dancers and people seeking rehabilitation from injury.

Cross Training with Pilates
The Pilates method bridges the gap between strength and flexibility training, enabling it to be incorporated into existing physical activities – e.g. gym, work, yoga, dance, swimming, walking, cycling, tennis and other body conditioning techniques. Regular users of Pilates unanimously agree on: improved performance, enhanced breathing, fitness endurance, injury prevention and body awareness.

Pilates Sessions
Equipment sessions are done with only one or two people. The equipment was designed to assist with correct body positioning. The equipment has handholds and supports that enable you to stretch further and get into positions unattainable on a mat alone.

Getting Started
At your first session we will ask for your general medical history along with lifestyle and postural details. This will be followed by a one-on-one session with a certified Pilates instructor. You will learn Pilates for fundamentals and exercises designed to suit your individual needs. As your body changes, exercises will be added or omitted to meet your personal goals and desires. Comfortable clothing that allows for easy movement is the best thing to wear; and no shoes are required.
